Daniel Vasta is a freelance visual journalist based out of Philadelphia and covers the PA/DE/NJ tri-state area where he grew up. Previously, Vasta interned at The Herald in Jasper, Indiana, and the Kalamazoo Gazette/MLive.com in Kalamazoo, Michigan. In May 2018, he graduated with a BFA in photojournalism from the Rochester Institute of Technology.

Vasta seeks to celebrate daily life and is driven to call attention to social issues through his work. He has been motivated by the idea of empathy and facilitating a dialogue in communities and situations where division is the baseline.

Vasta was a participant in the Eddie Adams Workshop XXX in 2017. That same year, he won Gold in the Group Multimedia Story category of College Photographer of the Year. He was also awarded the Gitner Family Award for Best Portfolio and won first in portrait, second in picture story, and third in multimedia story in RIT’s NPPA What We Do competition in 2017.
